Overview
The CDC Foundation seeks a full-time Research Assistant to support epidemiologic and surveillance activities to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria. The Research Assistant will serve as part of a research team which conducts assessments to determine baseline and changes in the availability, access and quality of maternal health services in Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria. The Research Assistant will participate in field activities in Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria as well as support program monitoring and evaluation design, methods and analysis. The Research Assistant position is an interdisciplinary role that brings together strong technical and analytical skills, with knowledge of public health. The combined skills and experience are essential to ensure the strategic objectives of the project are met.
Responsibilities
Support data analyses to improve understanding of characteristics and prevention opportunities to improve maternal health services in low-resource settings.
Stays up to date on emerging international approaches to understand contributors to disparate maternal health outcomes among populations.
Support the development of standard operating procedures and data management tools to organize data collection and monitor field staff.
Reviews literature to maintain current knowledge about measuring and evaluating maternal health capacity and performance at each level of the health system.
Support the development of comprehensive reports, manuscripts, abstracts, posters and/or presentations that include findings from the analysis of the project activities.
Support field activities to conduct data collection at health facilities in low-resource settings such as Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria.
Provide programmatic support for evaluation activities, including participation in planning, questionnaire design, data entry, data collection field visit planning and staff training.
Provide operational support for evaluation activities, including drafting and routing contractual agreements for local data collection grantees and consultants.
Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a background in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or closely related disciplines is required.
Experience in data management and analysis with programs such as SAS, R or STATA.
Demonstrates a high degree of initiative and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities, able to communicate effectively in a positive and professional manner and able to prioritize activities when under tight deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing and editing complex documents such as detailed reports and peer-reviewed articles.
Sound judgment and maturity exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels both internally and externally.
Ability to travel internationally 30–40% of the time, at times on short notice, with varied cadence, and an average trip duration of 3–4 weeks.
Position Highlights
Location: This position will work a hybrid schedule based in Atlanta, GA. Relocation expenses are not provided. 30–40% international travel required. Average travel duration of 3–4 weeks per trip.
Salary Range: $63,000–$70,000, plus benefits
Position Type : Grant funded, limited-term opportunity contingent upon funding
Position End Date: August 31, 2027
