The job description for the “Director, Engineering” position at Deel is as follows:

**Summary**

The HRIS platform is the foundation of the employee experience at Deel – powering how hundreds of thousands of employees interact with their data, benefits, time, performance, and lifecycle events across the globe. This is not just an engineering leadership role; it is an opportunity to own and elevate the core systems and experiences employees use every day.

Overseeing a large Front-End–heavy engineering organization of 30-40 engineers across multiple teams, you will be responsible for setting the technical and experiential bar for HRIS. You will lead the evolution of complex, user-facing applications that span web and mobile, often sharing a single codebase, while ensuring scalability, consistency, and exceptional usability.

We are looking for a leader who combines **Front-End Systems Excellence with Organizational Mastery** – someone who can scale and develop a large engineering org while remaining deeply involved in architecture, experience quality, and critical technical decisions. You will drive high performance through clear standards, direct feedback, and the thoughtful adoption of modern, AI-assisted development workflows.

**Responsibilities**

**Scale and Lead**
Lead and scale a Front-End-centric engineering organization of 30-40 engineers across multiple teams. Coach Engineering Managers and Senior ICs, establish clear ownership and accountability, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, user-centric experiences across the HRIS platform.

**Front-End Architecture & Experience Leadership**
Act as the technical authority for the HRIS Front-End platform. Set standards for React, TypeScript, Next.js, and shared web/mobile architectures. Lead large-scale Front-End migrations, refactors, and framework evolutions, ensuring performance, accessibility, and long-term maintainability while raising the overall UX and UI bar.

**Product & Design Ownership**
Partner deeply with Product and Design to own the end-to-end HRIS experience – from employee onboarding and profile management to benefits, time, and lifecycle workflows. You will ensure complex HR functionality is delivered through intuitive, well-designed interfaces that balance power with simplicity.

**High-Performance Culture & Direct Feedback**
Build and maintain a high-accountability engineering culture rooted in clarity, craftsmanship, and Radically Candid feedback. You set clear expectations for quality, design sensibility, and execution, and you actively develop leaders who can uphold these standards at scale.

**Modern Delivery & AI Leadership**
Champion the adoption of modern Front-End tooling and AI-assisted development workflows (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve developer velocity, code quality, and consistency. You continuously refine the Front-End development lifecycle to reduce friction while preserving technical excellence.

**Platform Reliability & Evolution**
Ensure HRIS user-facing systems remain reliable, performant, and scalable as usage grows globally. While Front-End focused, you partner closely with backend and platform teams to ensure seamless integrations, stable APIs, and a cohesive end-to-end system.

**Technical Profile & Requirements**

**Expert Front-End Systems & UI Architecture**
Expert-level experience designing and scaling large Front-End systems using React.js, TypeScript, and Next.js. Proven success building FE-heavy applications used across both browser and mobile, often with shared codebases. Deep understanding of state management, performance optimization, accessibility, and design systems.

**Design & UX Sensibility**
Strong design intuition and experience collaborating closely with Design using tools like Figma. You can critique UI and UX with credibility, ensuring consistency, usability, and a polished product experience across complex workflows.

**Front-End Migrations & Refactors**
A track record of leading major Front-End framework migrations, refactors, and architectural improvements in large, production environments—balancing delivery pressure with long-term platform health.

**Organizational Mastery**
Proven experience managing “teams of teams” (30–40+ engineers), including multiple Engineering Managers. You excel at org design, communication, and scaling delivery without sacrificing quality or team health.

**Modern Tooling & AI Adoption**
Hands-on familiarity with modern Front-End tooling, CI/CD practices, and AI-augmented development workflows, with a pragmatic approach to adoption that delivers real productivity gains.

**You’d Be a Great Fit If:**
* You thrive in Front-End–heavy, product-centric environments, where user experience is as critical as functional correctness.
* You are Radically Candid, believing that direct, timely feedback is essential to building great teams and great products.
* You bring 8–10+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing managers and scaling large, complex teams in a high-growth SaaS environment.
* You have a deep passion for UI, UX, and product craftsmanship, and you consistently raise the bar for how software looks, feels, and performs.
* You enjoy tackling large-scale Front-End transformations, from framework evolution to design system adoption, and know how to lead teams through change.
* You measure success not just by delivery, but by adoption, usability, and the quality of the employee experience—ensuring HRIS becomes a competitive advantage for Deel.

**Total Rewards**
Our workforce deserves fair and competitive pay that meets them where they are. With scalable benefits, rewards, and perks, our total rewards programs reflect our commitment to inclusivity and access for all.

**Some things you’ll enjoy**
* Stock grant opportunities dependent on your role, employment status and location
* Additional perks and benefits based on your employment status and country
* The flexibility of remote work, including optional WeWork access
