This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a **Middle AI Engineer – AI Patch Backporting** in **Europe**.

In this role, you will work at the forefront of AI-driven software maintenance, focusing on automating patch backporting for legacy systems and unsupported software. You will explore innovative approaches, rapidly prototype solutions, and integrate successful experiments into production-ready systems. Collaborating with a highly skilled, remote-first team, your work will directly impact large-scale infrastructure security and operational efficiency. **Accountabilities:**
* Conduct research to turn problem statements and hypotheses into concrete experiment plans, selecting methods, tools, and metrics
* Run lightweight experiments to evaluate feasibility and the potential value of new approaches
* Implement research findings and integrate them into production systems, ensuring reliability and maintainability
* Build, automate, and maintain evaluation metrics within CI pipelines to monitor experiment outcomes
* Develop production-quality Python tools, CLIs, and small services that accelerate experimentation and deployment
* Document experiments, decisions, and results to enable knowledge sharing and future adoption across the team
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accelerate innovation and support large-scale infrastructure projects

**Requirements:**
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
* 3+ years of experience as a developer or engineering lead
* Proficiency in Python with experience building production-ready tools and services
* Hands-on experience integrating large language models (LLMs) via APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic
* Familiarity with RAG, CAG, and agent-based approaches
* Basic infrastructure knowledge, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and testing automation
* Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to translate research into practical engineering solutions

**Nice-to-Haves:**
* Published research or prior experimentation experience
* Data analysis skills and experience designing evaluation metrics
* Basic knowledge of the C programming language
* Familiarity with AI engineering tools such as Cursor, WindSurf, or Aider
