We are a stealth-mode SaaS startup building a premium platform for the creative industry. We’re looking for a **Principal Backend Engineer / Architect** to join our team and take ownership of the core platform’s architecture, systems, and reliability. You will collaborate with a globally distributed team, including our engineering team in Georgia (the country).
This is a **hands-on, senior technical role**: you will code daily while leading the design and improvement of backend systems to ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability. You will help set technical standards and play a key role in shaping the future direction of the platform’s engineering.
**What You’ll Do**
* **Design & Improve Architecture:** Evaluate existing backend systems, identify areas for improvement, and implement scalable, maintainable solutions.
* **Hands-On Development:** Write high-quality, production-ready code; implement new features and optimize existing systems.
* **Technical Leadership:** Establish and promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and system conventions.
* **Mentor & Guide:** Provide technical guidance to team members, fostering growth and raising the overall quality of the engineering output.
* **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Partner with Product, Frontend, and AI teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
* **Plan for Scale:** Ensure the platform can handle growth, complex workflows, and data-intensive features.
**What We’re Looking For**
* 7+ years of backend engineering experience, with significant experience designing and building scalable SaaS platforms.
* 7+ years of experience with the Django framework.
* Strong proficiency in **Python**; experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
* Hands-on experience in **system architecture, microservices, and cloud platforms** (AWS).
* Proven track record of **refactoring or redesigning existing systems** for scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
* Experience leading teams technically or mentoring engineers; capable of **raising technical standards** across a team.
* Strong understanding of **API design (REST/GraphQL), security, and performance best practices**.
* Ability to balance **hands-on coding** with technical leadership responsibilities.
* Bonus: experience with AI/LLM integrations, data pipelines, or search/recommendation systems.
