**Job Description:**
MIGx is seeking an experienced AI/ML Lead to join their Data and AI Engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on advancing AI capabilities, particularly in Large Language Models (LLMs) and ML systems, while also building high-performing engineering teams. The ideal candidate will lead strategic AI/ML initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and actively contribute to designing and deploying production-grade AI solutions for the life sciences industry.
**Responsibilities:**
* Lead and mentor the AI/ML engineering team, fostering technical excellence and collaboration.
* Define and communicate the technical vision and roadmap for AI/ML initiatives.
* Conduct code and architectural reviews to ensure best practices.
* Design, build, and deploy LLM-powered applications and internal tools.
* Develop and maintain reusable AI infrastructure and platform components.
* Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of ML models.
* Work with embeddings, vector stores, and similarity search.
* Integrate with vector databases for scalable information retrieval.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align AI/ML work with business objectives.
* Champion good engineering practices for AI components.
* Guide technical hiring and contribute to team diversity.
* Lead discussions on AI ethics, responsible usage, and compliance.
* Contribute to architectural decisions and system design.
* Support team member career development.
**Requirements – Must have:**
* 5+ years of hands-on AI/ML engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
* Proven track record of building and deploying LLM-based systems in production.
* Strong understanding of modern ML infrastructure (experiment tracking, model versioning, deployment orchestration).
* Hands-on experience with embeddings, vector databases, and semantic search.
* Solid grasp of AI/ML fundamentals.
* Demonstrated experience leading technical teams.
* Experience driving technical strategy and cross-functional collaboration.
* Awareness of AI ethics and responsible AI practices.
* Strong communication skills.
* Team-first mindset and experience with agile environments.
* Professional working proficiency in English (B2/C1).
**Requirements – Nice to have:**
* Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerization/orchestration.
* Expertise in prompt engineering and RAG frameworks.
* Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP) and MLOps.
* Background in regulated industries (life sciences, healthcare).
* Familiarity with advanced monitoring and observability tools for AI/ML.
* Experience with distributed systems and big data processing.
* Track record of contributing to open-source projects or research.
* Spanish and/or Catalan language skills.
