Job Title: Head of Engineering
Location: Fully Remote
Reports to: CTO

About the Role
We are a leading international investment group with a strong presence across Asia and a growing global footprint. As part of our strategic expansion into new markets, we are building a brand-new, world-class engineering division.
We are looking for a Head of Engineering who is both a visionary technology leader and a highly hands-on engineer. You will be responsible for building a new remote engineering organization from the ground up, scaling it to ~40 world-class engineers across frontend (ReactJS) and backend (Java), and delivering high-quality, high-scale digital products for global markets.
This is a rare, high-impact leadership role with full ownership of technical strategy, architecture, team building, delivery excellence, and engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities
1. Technical & Strategic Leadership
Define the technical vision, architecture, and engineering roadmap aligned with business expansion goals.
Make key decisions on technology stack, system design, scalability, security, and performance.
Lead the development of large-scale, distributed, high-traffic systems.

2. Build & Lead a Global Engineering Organization
Recruit, hire, and onboard a high-performing, distributed engineering team of ~40 engineers.
Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and a strong remote-first culture.
Mentor engineering managers and senior individual contributors.

3. Hands-On Execution
Stay deeply technical: architect core components, write critical code, and perform high-level code reviews.
Lead both frontend (ReactJS) and backend (Java/Spring Boot) development initiatives.
Drive the full SDLC and ensure delivery of secure, scalable, high-quality products.

4. Operational Management
Oversee resource planning, budgets, vendor relationships, and team performance.
Implement modern DevOps, CI/CD, and agile processes to ensure efficient and reliable delivery.

Required Qualifications
10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role (Head of Engineering, Director, VP Eng, or similar).
Proven experience leading teams of 40+ engineers and building distributed teams from scratch.
Expert-level proficiency in ReactJS and Java (Spring/Spring Boot).
Strong background in architecture for scalable, high-volume, low-latency systems.
Demonstrated success delivering complex, customer-facing products end to end.
Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills in remote environments.

Nice-to-Have
Ability to bring an existing high-performing team/pod (5–15 engineers).
Knowledge of market dynamics in LatAm, Europe, or Africa.
Familiarity with real-time systems, distributed caching, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
