**Job Description:**
RCH Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team of scientific computing experts. In this role, you will collaborate closely with scientists, data analysts, and engineering partners to advance research workflows. A solid understanding of life science concepts—such as reference genomes and protein sequences—paired with curiosity and a growth mindset is essential.

This position requires a strong foundation in bioinformatics along with robust Cloud Operations experience, preferably in AWS. We are targeting candidates with an advanced degree for this role. If you excel in Python-based ETL development, have solid cloud operations experience, and are enthusiastic about expanding your domain expertise, we’d love to connect.

**Essential Qualifications:**
* Proficiency in data engineering with a focus on Python.
* Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL pipelines including but not limited to implementing quality checks, automating workflows, curating and transforming scientific and operational datasets (structured and unstructured).
* Working familiarity with R sufficient to execute scripts, troubleshoot package issues, and support scientific workflows when needed.
* Exposure to life science, bioinformatics, or research computing environments, including understanding of concepts such as reference genomes, protein sequences, FASTA/FASTQ formats, or similar data types.
* Strong version control and DevOps practices, including Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and repeatable environment setup.
* Ability to learn domain specific‑ scientific concepts quickly, collaborate with scientists, and translate technical requirements into reliable solutions.
* Experience with infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform, for repeatable cloud resource provisioning.
* Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non‑technical stakeholders in research or science teams.
* Champion security, compliance, and data governance best practices (least privilege, secrets management, PII/PHI safeguards as applicable).
* Experience: minimum 7 years of experience.
* Master’s in Computer Science or Bioinformatics is preferred.

**Required:**
* 7+ years of experience in data engineering or adjacent roles with a focus on Python and ETL.
* Practical AWS experience operating and/or supporting production workloads.
* Working knowledge of R sufficient to support users, run scripts, or troubleshoot analyses.
* Exposure to life sciences or bioinformatics concepts.
* Strong troubleshooting and operational mindset: you document, automate, and build guardrails.
* Version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab) and CI/CD experience.

**Preferred Qualifications:**
An ideal candidate will be collaborative, self-directed, and also possess:
* Experience supporting or using HPC environments leveraging SLURM.
* Containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/GKE).
* Strong understanding of data governance, cataloging, and lineage tools; basic familiarity with regulated environments (GxP, HIPAA).
* Experience assessing existing code and workflows and identifying bottlenecks and optimization opportunities.
* Comfort collaborating with research users (scientists, statisticians, bioinformaticians).
* Experience in software requirements gathering, documentation, design, and development.

**Soft Skills:**
* Positive, proactive can-do mindset.
* Demonstrated ability to lead projects of moderate scope, mapping-out critical path, milestones and timelines, as well as manage customer expectations with minimal supervision.
* Developed communication and presentation skills and a successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional scientific teams.

**Additional Information:**
* Competitive salary and bonus package based on experience.
* Company-provided continuing education benefit.
* Team-focused culture and unlimited opportunity for advancement.
