Purpose of the role:
You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a transparent and manageable engineering structure while scaling the organization and technical infrastructure to the enterprise level to support multi-fold growth in team size, traffic, and customer base. You will drive the transformation of our engineering practices, organizational structure, and delivery processes while maintaining the highest standards of system reliability and stability. This role requires a strategic leader who can restore control and structure in the engineering organization, align engineering capabilities with business objectives, build strong cross-functional relationships, and ensure excellent time-to-market without compromising product quality.
Technology Stack:
Golang, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, React / React Native.
Key responsibilities:
* Strategic Alignment: understand and align with company’s strategic goals, translating business objectives into engineering roadmaps and organizational capabilities
* Organizational Transformation: assess current state of engineering and product development, design and implement reorganization plans including new organizational structures and development processes. Restore manageability and structure rather than simply scaling the team
* Engineering and Product Synchronization: ensure tight synchronization between Engineering, Product, and Delivery functions to eliminate engineering isolation and increase release predictability
* Team Scaling: lead the multi-fold expansion of the engineering team while maintaining quality, culture, and operational excellence
* Middle Management Development: build and develop a middle management layer – including team leads, architects, and delivery owners – to create centers of responsibility and relieve top management of micromanagement
* Cross-functional Leadership: build and maintain effective relationships with delivery, product, and business teams. Serve as the key and primary link in the technical branch of the Sportsbook product, responsible for the efficiency and coherence of the entire engineering structure
* Delivery Excellence: drive high delivery efficiency and optimal time-to-market while ensuring system stability, scalability, and fault tolerance for production environments. Maintain balance between architectural changes and delivery speed, avoiding overengineering while preserving quality, resilience, and velocity
* Technical Leadership: drive pragmatic technical decisions aligned with business priorities and product roadmap. Oversee architecture decisions and technical strategy to support massive traffic growth and stringent scalability requirements. Organize team work, ensure efficient resource utilization, and improve engineering performance
* Engineering Culture and People Development: develop a culture of responsibility, initiative, and engagement (ownership culture). Ensure growth of engineer and architect competencies through mentoring, training, and internal knowledge sharing
* Process Optimization: establish and continuously improve engineering processes, best practices, and quality standards
* Metrics and Performance Management: implement a system of metrics and monitoring for engineering process efficiency, including delivery speed, quality, team utilization, and operational transparency. Set clear metrics, monitor team performance, and drive continuous improvement across all engineering functions
* Stakeholder Management: regularly interact with business, product, and all team divisions. Serve as the primary engineering representative to executive leadership and major clients
* Infrastructure Resilience: ensure production systems meet increasingly strict requirements for uptime, performance, and disaster recovery
Required Experience:
* 10+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years in senior leadership (Head/Director/VP level)
* Proven success scaling engineering teams (from ~30 to 100+ engineers)
* Experience building processes and structures after a period of organizational chaos
* Experience restoring manageability and transparency of engineering teams
* Deep expertise in building and operating high-load distributed systems with strict SLA requirements
* Strong technical background in modern cloud-native architectures (microservices, Kubernetes, event-driven systems)
* Experience with open-source technology stacks similar to ours (Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch)
* Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and process improvement in fast-growing technology companies
* Experience working with product teams and translating business requirements into technical strategy
* Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience presenting to C-level executives
* Experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams
* Experience in betting or related fields (gaming, high-load systems, fintech)
* Native Russian speaker with fluent English (written and spoken)
Nice to have:
* Experience in gaming, fintech, or high-frequency transaction systems
* Background in sports betting, iGaming, or related regulated industries
* Hands-on experience with our specific technology stack (Golang, Kubernetes ecosystem)
* Experience with React/React Native for web and mobile platforms
* Track record working in multi-product engineering organizations
* Experience with compliance and regulatory requirements in online gaming
* Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in engineering communities
