**Job Description Summary:**
Timken is seeking an Application Engineer (m/w/d) for their Rail division. This role involves translating customer needs into innovative applications for Timken bearings and related products, leveraging engineering fundamentals, application expertise, and customer insight to deliver value-added solutions. Key responsibilities include performing advanced bearing analysis, defining bearing specifications, providing technical support to sales teams, and engaging with customers to influence buying decisions. The role also involves contributing to innovation and product development by identifying market opportunities, submitting product improvement ideas, and researching industry trends.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Perform advanced bearing analysis using proprietary Timken software and other engineering tools.
* Conduct calculations beyond standard software capabilities, including adjusted L10 life, system analysis, and internal geometry design.
* Define bearing specifications, recommend seal and lubricant solutions, and review customer selections.
* Provide engineering and technical support to field sales and internal teams.
* Translate customer needs into bearing solutions aligned with Timken’s business goals.
* Present technical information to customers to influence buying decisions and add value.
* Support selected customers directly as an application engineer.
* Identify opportunities to expand Timken’s product and service lines or enter new markets.
* Submit ideas for product improvements.
* Participate in the development and testing of new analysis tools and software.
* Conduct industry and technology research, identify trends, and share insights with New Business Development and management.
**Skills and Competencies:**
* Bachelor or Master degree in Engineering or Technology with experience in the rail industry.
* Demonstrated critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to influence across the matrix organization and drive alignment.
* Project management and problem-solving expertise.
* Fluent German; professional English is required. Knowledge of French is a plus.
**Additional Information:**
* **Working Location:** Rail Düsseldorf office (mainly Germany + Europe).
* **Induction Training:** Approximately 3 months in Colmar, France.
* **Travel:** Willingness to travel for work.
